Michael Sakowich

Senior Therapist - Lic. Acupuncturist and Herbalist

Chinese medicine has always been intriguing to Michael Sakowich. During his teenage years, he began studying acupuncture and Asian philosophy. Then at age 25, he steered away from a potentially a promising career in western medicine and decided that Chinese medicine was the best path of healing. From that moment forward, Chinese medicine became part of Mikes life path.

Living in Colorado, he chose to study at Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado. During his training, he was involved in a private mentorship with professor Michael Young for three years in Zen Shiatsu and Japanese meridian therapy.

After graduating, he started a private practice in Boulder, Colorado where he treated people of varying backgrounds and conditions, with an emphasis primarily in sports medicine and chronic pain. To better serve his patients, he attended a post-graduate program in New York City at Tri-State Acupuncture College. The focus of this program was on orthopedic medicine and rehabilitation and presented the traditional Chinese techniques that lay the basis of modern dry needling technique. This course also ignited Mike’s previous interest in the vast practices of Yin Style Bagua. Yin Style Bagua is a system of healing techniques through acupuncture and massage, as well as Qi gong practices that encourage the cultivation of the body and mind through qi gong, meditation and it’s expansive system of martial arts. Michael has been practicing these techniques daily for the past 7 years.

Mike’s well-rounded background and 11 years of experience make him a skillful and trustworthy practitioner. He is excited to be part of the team at the Art of Healing which allows him access to help a wide range of patients. The idea of utilizing the wisdom and practicality of traditional medicine and blending the benefits of modern medicine is a model that is balanced and powerful. It creates an atmosphere that is professional, well rounded, and profoundly healing, and should serve as a model for a new path of modern medicine.

Mike uses a combination of Japanese and Chinese Meridian therapy treatments, dry needle technique and shiatsu. Mike has a strong belief that when acupuncture is combined with herbal therapy while managing diet and lifestyle, integrative medicine has a potential for great transformations of the body.

When not treating patients, Mike enjoys spending his time with his wife Samira and exploring Atlanta and the surrounding area.

Acupuncturist - Sandy Springs Location

Edwin Uribe

Lic. Acupuncture Physician and Herbalist

Edwin Uribe is passionate about Oriental Medicine and how it can help one feel better and prosper. His exposure to a very large and loving group of family and friends showed him how live for each other even in the most difficult times. He watched his father succumb to a combination of preventable disease and a lamentable apathy in the medical system that sees such a vast majority of people subjected only to pharmacological or surgical prescriptions to disease. A month after his father passed away, he was inspired to help others in a more conscientious and caring way than what he had experienced with his father. Edwin began his formal studies of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and Western Health Sciences at Dragon Rises College of Oriental medicine in August of 2011 with the understanding and goal to find a way for people to live more fulfilled lives.

At Dragon Rises College he studied Traditional and Contemporary oriental medical diagnosis and the various tools and techniques they employ to assist in Healing. Among these tools and techniques are Acupuncture, Fire Cupping, Tui Na Massage, Herbal Therapy, Moxibustion Therapy, and Qi Gong exercises. These are all of course very important therapies, but are generally secondary to one’s daily lifestyle and habits such as in diet, physical activity, routine, proximity to loved ones, involvement with the community and an understanding of how these things can combine to bring purpose, meaning, and joy to one’s life

After Graduation in 2014, Edwin spent two years working with the Geriatric community in Sun City Center Health and Wellness, an Integrative Medicine Clinic in Ruskin, Fl. In 2017 he moved to Gainesville, Fl where he worked with Physical Therapists to combine their treatment plans with acupuncture, cupping and herbal medicine to achieve even better results for the patients! Soon after he was offered the position of Assistant Supervisor in the Student Clinic at Dragon Rises College where he had the pleasure to help instruct students in taking what they’ve learned in the classroom and showing them how to apply that to real life patients.

Robinson Gaviria

Lic. Acupuncture Physician and Herbalist

Robinson Gaviria is not only a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, but he is a registered nurse, blending the two disciplines to offer a highly effective technique and method of care to treat pain, allergies, and stress. Dr. Gaviria’s preferred styles of acupuncture (Balance Method Acupuncture, Master Tung Style, and Auricular Acupuncture) bring particular benefits to the treatment and management of pain. Utilizing these methods, Dr. Gaviria is often able to eliminate or significantly reduce pain within seconds of needle insertion. Furthermore, these methods help in the preparation for surgery and to accelerate the healing process post-surgery.

In addition to pain management (Sports Injuries, Plantar Fascitis, Sciatica, Back Pain, Joint Pain, Neck Pain, etc.), Dr. Gaviria has witnessed amazing results in his patients dealing with neurological issues (Bell’s Palsy, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Migraine, Headaches, Meniere’s Disease, Dizziness and Vertigo, Neuropathies, etc.), digestive issues (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chron’s Disease, Gastritis, Indigestion, Colitis, Acid Reflux, Nausea, etc.), dermatological issues (Acne, Carbuncles, Edema), ENT issues (TMJ, Nose Bleeds, Dry or Teary Eyes, Styes, Excessive Salivation, etc.), respiratory issues (Allergies, Sinusitis, Rhinitis, Asthma), women’s health issues (Menopause, PMS, Cystitis), and stress and emotional issues (Irritability, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, etc.).  His pleasant-manner allows not only adult patients to feel at ease but also children and adolescents.

Maria Torres

Lic. Acupuncturist Therapist and Herbalist

Maria is a native of Miami, FL who has recently made GA her new home. Growing up in a large family food was always a unifying element. Maria learned at an early age the healing power of food and the benefits of traditional healing. One of her earliest memories of this was watching her grandparents prepare herbal teas and remedies from herbs and plants that were collected from their backyard each time anyone was not feeling well. This ignited a 20-year career in the healthcare field specializing in food and nutrition. Maria worked in hospitals, retirement communities, assisted living facilities and nursing homes where she combined her passion for helping people with the healing properties of herbs and foods. Maria was initially drawn to acupuncture after part of her face became paralyzed due to a condition typically caused due to high levels of stress, known as Bell's Palsy. Through acupuncture, Maria experienced an accelerated, full recovery. It was this that inspired her to pursue a career as an acupuncture physician. Maria earned her Masters in Oriental Medicine from Acupuncture Massage College in Miami, FL. She is a board-certified acupuncturist licensed to practice in Georgia and Florida. Prior to joining Art of Healing, she held a private practice in Florida treating patients with a variety of conditions including chronic pain, injuries, infertility, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, addictions, weight management, PTSD and more. In her practice, Maria also incorporated Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Facial rejuvenation
with cosmetic acupuncture is a healthy way to reduce the signs of aging and promote overall health.
When Maria is not at the clinic, she enjoys cooking healing foods, traveling, DIY projects, and spending quality time with her family.
Maria is excited to be part of the Art Of Healing team and looks forward to helping you reach your wellness goals.

Janine Rahl

Operations Manager

Janine Rahl was born in Goiania, Brazil amid a troubling political and economic atmosphere. In this disadvantaged community, she grew a passion and appreciation for service, education, and healthcare access. Janine earned her bachelor's degree in Media Communication. Through the dissemination of information as a reporter and writer, she aimed to elevate communities by bringing in knowledge and awareness. Throughout her career and volunteer efforts, Janine has mastered English, Spanish, and Portuguese. After moving to the United States, she recognized that this developed country lacked something that even her small community in Brazil had – an acceptance of alternative and complementary medical systems.
